Abigail Washburn’s City of Refuge is free for the listening on NPR Music for a short while.  The album—due out on the whimsical 1/11/2011—is the latest from the clawhammer banjoist known for her combinations of American and Chinese folk. Washburn says this work takes a different direction from her earlier work, her collaborators this time around including Carl Broemel of My Morning Jacket, Chris Funk of The Decemberists, Ketch Secor and Morgan Jahnig of Old Crow Medicine Show, and producer Tucker Martine (whose producees include Spoon and Sufjan Stevens). Looks like Sufjan forgot to pass on news of the demise of the album to Martine and Washburn. How foolish they shall look!
