Some people claim that the Red Hot Chili Peppers have changed their lineup so much in their twenty-five plus years that you can no longer consider them the same band.  And there is truth to that.  But Anthony Kiedis and Michael Balzary (better known as Flea) have always been, are, and always will be, Red Hot Chili Peppers.  And Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem, for that matter.

In October of last year, the Peppers released The Red Hot Chili Peppers: An Oral/Visual History, a coffee table book, co-written by their late friend, and The Masque founder, Brendan Mullen.  Balzary recently talked to Guy Raz of NPR’s All Things Considered about the book, the band’s early experiences, and, most importantly, legendary RHCP founding guitarist Hillel Slovak.

Listen to the interview here, and preview the book here.  “Read more” for two brilliant videos featuring Slovak and former Peppers drummer Jack Irons.
