10. Rad Omen – “Rad Anthem”
Directed by: Nicholaus Goossen

“Born out of the mouths of wolves and serpents. Raised up by degenerates and whores in the gutters of your forgotten cities.”  A stunning video from a mysterious band.

9. Superchunk – “Digging for Something”
Directed by: Scott Jacobson

Looks like David Cross and Janeane Garofalo were tied up this time around.  I guess a John Darnielle cameo will have to do.

8. El Guincho – “Bombay” (Not Safe For Work)
Directed by: Nicolás Méndez

One of the most stunning videos of the year came from Nicolás Méndez of Mexican video production team Canada. And it’s not the last you will hear or see of him…

7. Das Racist – “Who’s That? Brooown!”
Directed by: Thomas De Napoli

Das Racist might be the purest embodiment of what millions carelessly refer to as “hipster,” but their laudable cunning and self-awareness shine in everything they do, not least of all here.

6. Kanye West – “Runaway”
Directed by: Kanye West

The man put a lot into his 2010 album, and his not-so-short film of a music video gives an epic five-song preview of his Twisted Fantasy.  I think he has earned the number 6 spot.

5. Scissor Sisters – “Invisible Light” (Not Safe For Work)
Directed by: Nicolás Méndez

Méndez outdid himself with this end-of-the-year spectacle.  Goes to show why you don’t pick the year’s best until the year is truly coming to an end.  Similar to “Bombay” but even more flashy and random, “Invisible Light” will stay on your mind for days after viewing it.

4. Duck Sauce – “Barbara Streisand”
Directed by: So Me

House duo Duck Sauce stunned the world with last year’s “aNYway,” and this year they’ve created another brilliant dance track.  The video is loaded with cameos and shots of Armand Van Helden and A-TRAK (the two members of Duck Sauce) clowning around New York City.

3. OK Go – “This Too Shall Pass”
Directed by: Syyn Labs

OK Go made a splash in the music video world in July of 2006, and they didn’t disappoint this year either.  Call it a gimmick or compensation.  But Rube Goldberg machines will always be cool.  And it’s an impressive feat.

2. OK Go – “White Knuckles”
Directed by: Trish Shie

Finally, an animal rights advertisement I can get behind – neither self-righteous nor melodramatic.  PETA, take notes.

1. Chromeo – “Don’t Turn the Lights On”
Directed by: Keith Schofield

Chromeo has some stunning videos, but none like this.  A truly original work of art to accompany Chromeo’s best song of 2010, complete with Chromeo stunt doubles and a lovable pair of flying eyeballs.
