For the past 4 years, Stereogum has released “Mysplice” a mashup playlist that lays some of the defining tracks of the year over classics. This year they got Australian producer team9 (real name Neil Mason) to help them make it, and it didn’t disappoint. It features samples from Animal Collective, Girls, Phoenix, and Vampire Weekend (among others) as well as classic songs like The Cure’s “Love Song” and The Pixies “Monkey Gone to Heaven.” High points are “Riders Sleep Alone” (a mix between Bat For Lashes’ “Sleep Alone” and The Doors’ “Riders on the Storm”) and “Phoenix Get Cured” (a mix between the French band’s “1901″ and “Love Song”.) It makes for a great (free) belated Christmas gift, as well as a pretty good holiday alternative to Girltalk. Listen to the full album below.
