3. What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962)

This masterpiece tells the story of envy and betrayal among two aged performers, the Hudson sisters, flawlessly acted by Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. Like some other horror films of that decade (Peeping Tom 1960), What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? was well ahead of the time with its over the top performances, dark humor, and crisp photography. It’s a seductive, yet creepy display – Davis as Baby Jane Hudson is malicious toward her invalid and now captive sister, but it is impossible not to find her demeanor alluring. By the end, you’ll be singing along, “I’ve written a letter to Daddy. His address is heaven above!”

4. Teeth (2007)

The modern tale of the Vagina Dentata is a perfect coda for this Shocktober installment. Its shorter runtime and colorful palet will help to restore viewer energy in the horror double feature, but its sense of humor and charm, albeit repulsive, fits nicely with Baby Jane Hudson’s antics. Jess Weixler stars as Dawn, a high school girl devoted to abstinence and her Christian purity group. Her body undergoes some unusal evolution at a time when she meets an overly frisky teenager and a nightmarish gynecologist. As The Hollywood Reporter said, “The most alarming cautionary tale for men since Fatal Attraction.”
