Seabear – I’ll Build You A Fire from seabear on Vimeo.

I have a friend who went to the Iceland Airwaves festival this month (jealous, J!). In honor of his experience in this country where the language sounds like a velvet waterfall and where the music scene is astonishing, I’m choosing a song by an Icelandic band called Seabear, from Reyjkavik.

“I’ll Build You a Fire” took my breath away on the first listen, and has been the soundtrack for my morning dog walks as well as my evening reading. The combination of singer Sindri Már Sigfússon’s breathy vocals, the swirling, jangling velocity, the moments of jubilant chorus, and the melodic fall of notes on the words “falling down” make it perfect autumn Sunday listening. You can almost see the glints of sun through golden leaves and feel the chill of the Atlantic wind.

This song is a standout, but the whole LP, We Built a Fire, is a delight. Seabear is perfect with a thick wool sweater, a cup of Heitt súkkulaði (hot chocolate), and a slideshow of Icelandic landscape photography.
